Dr. Leisa Carson
Owner and Veterinarian
Dr. Carson received her doctorate in veterinary medicine from Colorado State University in 1992. Her first job was in Washington at Pilchuck Veterinary Hospital in equine medicine. After working there a year the partners transferred her to the satellite clinic where small animal medicine was added to her duties as well as managing the hospital! In 1995 she moved to Canyon City, Colorado to be closer to her family, and 1 year later finally home to Ft. Collins. She continued her career at Harmony Hospital for Pets. During her 10 years there, she found her true passion was small animal medicine, surgery, and dentistry. In 2007 she joined Dr. Margaret Baxter, the founding partner at The Vets Animal Hospital. In 2011, Dr. Carson’s lifelong dream of owning a practice came true; she purchased The Vets Animal Hospital. Dr. Carson continues to run the hospital on Dr. Baxter’s philosophy; high quality medicine at a reasonable price.
Additionally, Dr. Carson runs Bits-N-Pieces 4-H club and continues to be the organizational leader. Many kids in the club are in the Lease A Dairy project in which The Vets Animal Hospital purchases the cattle and all necessary supplies so the kids can gain experience in caring for the animals and learn about the agriculture industry.
Dr. Carson is an active volunteer in the community and schools. In 2010 she was given the “Above and Beyond” leadership award from Larimer County 4-H program and in March of 2013 was chosen to receive the 9 Who Cares Award for her volunteer work in the 4-H programs.
In her spare time Dr. Carson loves spending time with her husband, Ken and their 3 children. On her days off you will find her and the kids out in the arena enjoying the horses. Her family is rounded out by a herd of Springer Spaniels, a Labrador retriever and several cats!
